Hi all,
Thought I'd write about something that I have thought quite a bit about lately. I've been studying how certain elements in life seem to work and have noticed what I am calling the "Spiral effect". It could very well be that Someone out there has figured this out long ago. It just happens to be something I've been thinking about lately.
Have you ever noticed that when you are having a bad day, it usually gets worse before it gets better? How about when you are having a string of luck? Things seem to just keep getting better. To me this represents how things can spiral upwards or downwards. When things are going badly they don't get a little bit worse, they seem to get exponentially worse. For whatever reason, I think we allow things to be connected due to our own inability to "put a fence around them" and see them for the isolated incidents that they are. For this reason, when something goes wrong, we allow it to set a tone for something else to go wrong. When something else goes wrong, it compounds how you were already feeling about something else having not worked out. Really what we are doing is allowing a situation to spin out of control. As a string of incidents moves along it builds momentum and becomes more difficult to stop. This is when we need to jump back into the drivers seat and turn the bus around. Take control again. The difficulty is that not only do you need to stop the spiral downward, then you have to overcome inertia and start the spiral upwards.
Getting the Spiral working for you again.
After a strange string of events that have seemingly gone wrong, you need to find away to get back on the positive train. My suggestions is to get very granular. By that I mean take small controllable scenarios and find the success in them. I woke up and didn't have a headache. That's a good thing. My coffee was hot and satisfying. That's a good thing. These are obviously small and seemingly insignificant but isn't it the same as getting toothpaste on your shirt or stubbing your toe, seemingly insignificant things, and then allowing them to set a negative tone for your day?
Think about it and where I am going and we'll talk more about it again later.
